About Tree of Life Missionary Baptist Church

On July 23, 1979, 7:00 p.m., the Reverend Cato Brooks, Jr., and ten (10) others were summoned by the Lord to the home of Mr. and Mrs. James Ervin of Gary, Indiana, for a serious meeting in respect to their commission for the Lord.

In August of 1979, the Tree of Life Mission was organized and worshipped with Rev. James Barnett, Jr., and the Greater Harvest Missionary Baptist Church.

On September 17, 1979, at 7:30 p.m., the Tree of Life Mission became the Tree of Life Missionary Baptist Church. Rev. Cato Brooks, Jr., became the Pastor of the Tree of Life Missionary Baptist Church for life. John Trotter seconded the motion. All members present voted in the affirmative.

Under the leadership of Pastor Brooks, we are a church that understands what God's plan is for mankind. The membership continues to grow in number and in spirit. The Tree of Life Missionary Baptist Church has come this far by faith, leaning, trusting, and depending upon His Word.

On February 5, 1991, the Tree of Life Missionary Baptist Church received a commendation from the City of Gary for its outstanding contributions to the community in its efforts to broaden and extend mental, physical, and spiritual guidance to the citizens of Gary.

In July of 1991, the Southern Baptist State Convention awarded the Tree of Life Missionary Baptist Church a certificate of outstanding performance in Christian Service.

With the continued growth of the church, an educational wing was constructed in 1992 and the gut rehab of our church sanctuary began.

The Tree of Life Missionary Baptist Church shall continue to praise God and thank Him for all He has done for us.
